Podcasts
My primary podcast is Silver Lining for Learning (SLL), which I co-founded and co-host. For over four years and more than 200 one-hour episodes, we have held an ongoing conversation on the future of learning with educators, education leaders, innovators, and learners from across the globe. The archive is a rich set of cases documenting models for educational transformation across the world.
A Keynote talk about SLL's mission and resources was presented at the 2024 Global Learning for an Open World (GLOW) conference.

This article describes the strategies The Digital School uses to rapidly attain scale and impact across many countries

Dede, C. (2024). Guest editorial on intelligence augmentation: The owl of Athena.
IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, vol. 17, pp. 2154-2155.
In classical times, the maiden Goddess of Wisdom is depicted with an Owl on her shoulder. My guest editorial for IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies speculates whether this metaphorically prefigures the role of Generative AI in human wisdom.

Dede, C. (2023). What is Academic Integrity in the Era of Generative Artificial Intelligence?
In contrast to the misinformation and false claims about what Large Language Models (LLMs) can accomplish, this blog presents a realistic appraisal of why chatbots are not a path to Artificial General Intelligence.

Menlo Park, CA: Postsecondary Teaching with Technology Collaborative.
https://postseccollab.org/helping-students-attain-skills-that-cannot-be-taught/
This blog, written for the Postsecondary Teaching with Technology Collaborative, describes ways of learning skills that cannot be taught, like creativity and self-directed learning.

Dede, C. (2020). Necessity is the father of transformation.
This blog was written in 2020 soon after the pandemic shut down all face-to-face education. I assert that Transformation comes primarily when people have no choice, when the current model cannot be sustained and they must do something radically different. Now, civilization is in crisis, and educators cannot make every home into a remote classroom. The issue is whether we will use this opportunity to create a more effective, universal model of instruction based on modern knowledge about learning, a system that provides every student the support to reach their full potential through strategies for personalization.
Dede, C. (2020). Remote learning and stone soup.
https://learningpolicyinstitute.org/blog/remote-learning-and-stone-soup
This blog was written for the Learning Policy Institute about a month after the pandemic had forced unprepared remote learning. I document numerous best practices in learning across distance and argue that the models we implement should be transformational rather than traditional.
Dede, C. (2020). Advising your children about learning in the era of the new abnormal.
This blog was written about two months after the pandemic had changed every aspect of life. I describe what children should be told to prepare them for a chaotic, disruptive future.
Dede, C. (2020). The erosion of high-stakes summative tests: Adding a new compass.
This blog was written about three months after the pandemic had forced a sea-change in education. I urge complementing psychometric summative tests with performance-based formative assessments of skills the former instruments cannot accurately measure.
Dede, C., and Sievers, K. (2020) Op-Ed: Get credentials to get ahead. No college degree required.
Barrons (December 1).
https://www.barrons.com/articles/get-credentials-to-get-ahead-no-college-degree-required-51606844855
This co-authored op-ed in Barrons advocates for microcredentials as a complement to degrees and certifications.
